Range Trainer XD Waterproof Shell
5 star quality!! - as EVERYTHING THEY MAKE AND OFFER! I own at least 80% of all of their tactical clothing/ combat gear at this point- even own more of the same gear (but in other patterns.) Because I am a US Marine Infantryman, sniper, squad leader, and an active outdoorsman. I put my money in ONLY the best GEAR- Because now I truly know the difference from many bloody months of humping sub par gear! As we know- our combat BDU’s and basic gear for the most part “are supremely SUB PAR!” And it’s pretty aggravating that civilians can easily buy and get ahold of better gear than we have on the lines!! And (No I can not rock the superior gear that Viktos makes because the Corps would never allow it! We are in uniform- even in combat.) we will continue to ask and beg that Viktos would get the Gov contract, at least for the Marine Corps! Dreams can happen! Well this bib set along with the top water proof shell is obviously being used for an entirely different purpose- however makes for an EXCELLENT combination to stay completely dry and remain tactically effective- (do to the fact that everything they design is built for EDC at the minimum- but this like the rest is much more than just EDC carry- I love the magazine depth that Viktos offers on most all of there gear. Many vents to cool you down as well. The built in gussets alone in the clothing- are a huge favorite!! All vents and zippers are truly waterproof. So this bib and top shell is my new GO TO answer for those “wet days” yet remain a “much cooler option” for those Carolina hot humid days. This is yet again, Another great practical/tactical set of gear they have created. So to all the civilians- be happy, grateful even! And thank Viktos, due to their special operations experience/mindset- in which they have successfully integrated their past experiences into what “this Marine will declare” as simply “the best combat wear and EDC clothing and gear out there!” So when you buy, you will feel more than happy with your purchase- knowing it’s built and tested by the same people that run into the firefight! Thank you all at Viktos ?

Get One
Originally got this shell for range use. Took it with me for work and was very impressed. I am a Lineman in Idaho. We got called out for an emergency outage and decided to try these out in winter conditions. If it was not snowing it was raining for the 5 days we were out. This shell way out performed the rain gear we are issued. I am 5'9" 220. Got an extra large. Was very comfortable over my base layer and mid layer. Breathed well, kept me dry, and was not cumbersome. Was able to perform my duties very comfortably with this shell. Amazing piece of gear. Will take it with me everywhere.

Better Than Outdoor Brands
I have a stupid amount of rain jackets that I've collected over the years. Before getting this, my rotation was Viktos' original rain jacket, a GI desert tricolor/M81 reversible Gore-Tex, and three different Outdoor Research rain jackets. I've tried most common brands, and those had been my go-tos for great shells for a while now. I got this XD model in the murkwood camo. I haven't had a ton of time with it yet, but from my several hikes and general out and about usage for the last week, this thing might very well be my new all time favorite shell. The murkwood is super cool, imo. The pattern is kinda like frogskin crossed with multicam. It has a slight faded look to it that makes it have old military surplus score vibes, but it also fits like a modern jacket and has incredibly well thought out lowkey details only you as the wearer notice (and appreciate). It has a bit of weight to it—it really bucks wind and feels like an actual barrier—which is great for me in the Northern Rockies, but might be a bit much for warmer parts of the country outside of winter, for what that's worth. It probably is the most breathable shell I've tried, but with that weight and it still being waterproof materials, it'll still trap heat to an extent. Forearm panels are great, but wish they would wrap around a little more to cover the bits I scrape on the ground when doing shooting things or whatever. Just nitpicking, honestly, maybe useful for the next gen. Overall a fantastic jacket that I hope to get a lot of use out of.

Range Trainer XD waterproof shell and bib
I first saw the Ranger Trainer XD Waterproof Shell and Bib at the GOA meeting in Knoxville a couple of months ago. I was impressed but they were not yet available. As soon as they became available, I ordered both the shell and bib. Then Georgia began a long draught and I did not get to test the gear in real rain. The rain finally came and like a child with a new yellow raincoat and rubber duckie boots, I headed out in a downpour in my new shell, bibs, highly used Johnny Combat boots and Marine utility cover and took a three mile walk in pouring down rain on a 50 degree night. While it is a little difficult to put on the bib pants with boots already on, this is not a deal breaker. The bib and shell fit so that it was easy to move around. I was able to munipulate a M-4 rifle without difficulty. I did not have a problem with heat building up inside the outside as I walked at a fairly brisk pace. In fact, I was wishing I had a sweatshirt under the shell. The utility cover and the hood kept the rain out of my face and off my glasses. The clothes under the outfit stayed dry. As a side benefit, the material does not reflect light and I became a black hole in the dark night. The material appears sturdy and I look forward to wearing it for many years.

Load bearing, form fitting
This clunky looking Vietnam style jacket contoures really well and holds heavy gear comfortably. The finishing details really make it work. I wish the Sherpa had these side-zip snaps. The over-arm panels shed really well. My firearms tend to soak through on other brand breathable wetware. This material is dry, durable and flexable. Looking forward to see how it does in winter conditions.
