One of the most comfortable shoes I've owned.
This makes my 5th pair of Viktos footwear I have purchased over the years. Not all have been winners and if you are like me you already know that. In fact on some footgear I wondered if the people who designed it ever actually wore a prototype and if they did, did they actually walk and wear them for a few days. If you’re like me and you’ve owned several pair of Viktos footgear you know that you can’t always tell by putting on a no-very-cheap pair of boots, walk around on your carpet for a minute or two and know they are 110% GTG. I know this because I have Viktos boots in my closet that I paid over $100 bucks for and I can’t wear them. I don’t gift them away because a free gift that hurts your feet ain’t how I roll. HOWEVER COMMA - These shoes/boots (Viktos calls them shoes) are hands down the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn in a LONG TIME. I gave up my normal footgear, Salomon’s to support this veteran owned company and I know that not every purchase is going to have me dancing in the streets, take for instance the Overbeach ATV and the 1911. Now the 1911 look fantastic, but the side construction is so stiff it can't form around your ankle, so you know what that means. The ATV? Too much risk. Let me be plain, I was wearing a pair of Salomons and backpacking in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. My right big toe blistered. That skin came off with the moleskin and the tender skin under that blistered. So forth and so on until I was down to the raw meat. That toe never healed up and I had to have most of it lopped off 4 years later. So let me just say I am picky about my footwear. BTW the boot was fine, DA me had the wrong in sole in the boot. Left foot 100% good to go. Right foot now has a "Mr. Stubby". So yeah I'm particular about when a shoe or boot doesn't fit right or feel right. That's why the 1911 ($150 less me veterans discount - thank you Viktos and the Overbeach ATV ($140 less discount, Thank you again VIktos) sit in my closet wearing Texas dust instead of my dogs. THAT SAID, I would buy another 2-3 maybe 4 pair of the Operatus Shoe, except they aren't in stock - like ever. I'd love to get the black, heck I'd shout a Hallelujah if Viktos had the Operatus made in the 2nd best color - next to God's Plaid - and I mean Coyote Brown. Coyote Brown is far more versatile than green. But I digress - let me tell you why you should buy the Operatus, IF they ever come back in stock. 1. They are absolutely comfortable - I've established that. Here's why: #1 They are somehow the coolest (temp-wise) shoe I have worn. I was a jungle boot soldier, even wore Salomon's jungle boots - not even in the same universe. Brothers - (and/or sisters) this shoe is like wearing one of those Nike shoes back 20 years ago that just had that thin material and a little leather on the sides. I guess they breathe, I honestly think it's some kind of Shoe Fairy Magic. For context and I'm going to violate my own OPSEC, I live in Central Texas and this summer it has been hotter than 11 hells. I mean DAMN HOT.. I wear my Operatus with a good pair of Merino Wool socks (Darn Tough for example, I have a huge bone to pick with Viktos socks that last 5 months.) Anyway I pull these shoes off and my feet are not soaked or drenched in sweat. I wear those same Darn Tough socks in another shoe and the results are different so I KNOW it's the shoe. 2. Let's talk about where the ATV and the 1911 shoe fail - -the sidewalls or the upper. But it's not like hard PVC plastic, it actually does a good job of supporting my ankle without being way too tight or hot. That's huge in this summer time. I know some guys have complained about the length of the tongue, I can only say that must be a personal preference or problem, because I find the tongue just fine being a little longer. I don't want a tongue that slips under the laces and this one does set a little high but it's not uncomfortable by any means. 3. Further down to the sole. I do think Viktos does a good job on their insoles. They aren't the best I've used, but they are probably the top 5 of any insole that's come with a shoe, but the more important part is the shank, that's the part under the insole (I think anyway) However Viktos designed that, they did a damn good job because I can wear the Operatus shoe all dang day and my feet feel pretty good. (15 years in boots, my feet rarely "feel good" but these shoes DEFINITELY do not make them feel worse!! I think that even my knees don't bother me as much when I wear these shoes as well. For reference I am 6'2.5" and weigh 234. I'm not a little guy, but I don't have 2 spare tires around my gut either, so that definitely helps. Truth brothers - when I was sporting a spare tire, my knees hurt all the time. If that's you, do yourself a favor and lose some weight. I promise you as a former Senior Non-Commissioned Officer holding my NCO Creed true to heart - your knees will THANK YOU. I also think if you buy these shoes, your ol' dawgs are going to thank you. I know we all got different feet and a lot of us veterans (except the Chair Force) and retired LEOs that spent a lot of time on their feet - we all got different feet and we all have feet issues. I do wish a veteran owned company took that into account on their warranty, but it is what it is. Too many rootiepoot douchebags would take advantage of them. That's the unfortunate truth, so we just have to keep bearing it up and when we finally find a great pair of shoes - we need to help each other out and let everyone else know, "I SCORED!!! HAPPY DAWG ALERT!!! HAPPY DAWG ALERT!!! Alright, I know I wrote a lot in fact I think my review is going to error out because it's too long and all I've been doing is dropping truth bombs about this shoe (and a couple other.) I 110% recommend the Operatus Shoe. Both of my feet and all 9.33 toes loves this shoe.

Overall moderately comfortable for short term use. Shoelaces will wear through the leather ripping the eyelet hole out. Would not recommend for long term use.

Initially the fit seemed hard, I definitely need to wear a slightly thicker sock than the Viktos brand for comfort. Maybe it will be more comfortable over time all the other styles were comfortable on initial wear.

Best Tactical Shoe Made
Let start off on why these shoes rank amongst the best. First of all, I am not using these shoes larping. I am highly active LEO, in a unit that does everyday high paced CQB,Open Air …..etc. I am 28 year LEO veteran, and worn some of the worst shoes in my career. In the later years, I found that having a connection to the ground for footwork and obstructions is the key. So I transitioned to flat bottom, athletic type shoes; in my case VANS were the go to. Traditional MIL or LEO, has always been clunky, heavy and very stiff, which limited agility and ability to maneuver if difficult and different environmental settings. Whether it was structure clearing, vehicle takedowns or open air; footwear is just as important the right Kit. These shoes highly mimic a Skateboarder type shoe, which is why I was draw to them. They are flat bottom, provide support, and are made minimalistic, so they are not cumbersome. I routinely switch between these and my VANS; but lately these have been my go to. I encourage VIKTOS to continue making these and expand color and variation selections. Anyone in the tactical world that actually does high operational tempo work would agree. Look at all the Tier 1 units; they have been using VANS, Converse for years; it’s a proven formula. These shoes are high quality, but not over engineered, and mission specific footwear. I highly recommend these shoes to anyone in LEO and MIL communities, as this design is exactly what is used daily.

Comfy and fit great
I purchased these the Operatus show, with reservations. I had owned the Range Trainers. They lasted about 3 weeks before two eyelets broke on the same side rendering thebshoe useless. I have worn these shoes everyday walking 5 miles a day as well as at work. These shoes are true to size and comfortable out of the box. They are as comfortable as my Van’s were. Material does effectively repel water. Considering the Core Containment or Range Trainers XT but leery about about structural integrity of the eyelets.

Not perfect, but good
I'm mainly writing this review for the people concerned over how narrow the shoes are/are not. Long story short, l'm comfortable in a wide (the actual sizing, that is) shoe. These are a little shy of a wide shoe, but they still feel comfortable and fit pretty well. If you're one of those guys who says these are way too narrow, you definitely need to start looking into shoes with extra and triple-wide sizing.

Great shoe but...
90% of my shoes are from Viktos. I am a long time customer and have been pleased with every pair of shoes, jeans, shirts, etc. until now. Thanks to the Army, I have really messed up feet and I find their shoes and sandals keep my issues at bay. I do not like writing reviews but I think others should know some things that seem out of the ordinary from their other shoes. As far as comfort while walking/standing, they are much like the Vans I used to wear, so no issue there. They are great for working in my shop as I do a lot of standing. They are made to last just like all of their shoes. I really like the look, not that is a big selling point, but it is a bonus. As one other mentioned, they are a bit narrower than I expected/am used to from Viktos. I have wider feet than most folks my size and it is tough to find proper fitting shoes. Not a fan of the tongue. It feels a bit too long. Biggest turnoff is the lack of ankle support and padding around the ankle. It reminds me of the Converse I wore in high school but there is a gap between the material and my ankle. I can easily stick my finger in between when standing. I gave a 4 star rating because I know they will last and they are great for standing and walking around my shop. However, I am quite disappointed in the lack of ankle support. To the Viktos folks, I will still recommend your shoes and clothing to everyone I know.
